G’day guys, it’s Luke here at Mechcon Welding Fabrication.

We’re out here at Diamond Valley Library. We’ve just recently finished a project off here for the council. This particular one was done in two stages.

We had an entry ramp that was constructed and we were required to design a fairly typical stainless steel DDA compliant handrail, both sides of the ramp leading up to the entrance. Mechcon was chosen by council to do this just based off our experiences we’ve done in the past for public buildings and making sure that these buildings can still operate and the public can get in and out whilst we’re doing our installation works.

This handrail was 90% prefabricated using advanced SS fab methods. There wasn’t a great deal of work to be done on site. Being an architectural handrail there’s always a little bit of site welding and polishing those types of things so that’s just the nature of quality handrails for quality buildings.

The second stage of the project out at the library here was a childcare centre and landscape feature at the back which you can have a look at through the video. It’s quite a large package for a childcare centre.

We got involved with designing and building a structural steel package or the galvanised steel work you can see in the background there. That was all shop drawn and put together or bolted together I should say on site and then you’ve got all the handrails throughout.

It’s similar or in fact the same material as the front of the library a 38mm stainless steel marine grade material, but out the back here the handrails were a little bit more involved. They required to be curved to carefully follow the freshly constructed parves and stairs and at the same time trying our very best in our design to keep it as DDA compliant as possible and if you look closely you’ll see just a beautifully finished, polished, seamless rail system throughout a fairly robust system too.

Plenty of engineering and strength anchorage and the whole down system.
