Pump Station Walkway – Barwon Water

Description:

On 15 October 2025, Mechcon commenced a six‑week scope of works for Barwon Water, delivering a critical infrastructure upgrade at the pump station. The project involved the supply, fabrication, and installation of a 30‑metre crane access walkway and platform, designed to enhance operational safety and efficiency.

All fabrication and welding activities were executed in strict compliance with Australian Standards, specifically AS 5131 for fabrication and AS 1554 for welding. Mild steel was selected as the primary material, ensuring durability and strength, while protective coatings were applied using HDG (Hot Dipped Galvanising) to provide long‑term resistance against corrosion in demanding environmental conditions.

The installation scope extended beyond the walkway itself, incorporating handrails and access ladder cages to meet stringent safety requirements. Mechcon’s team managed the full process from workshop fabrication through to onsite assembly, ensuring precision alignment and seamless integration with existing pump station infrastructure.

This project demonstrates Mechcon’s capability in delivering complex steel fabrication and installation works to industry standards, while prioritising safety, reliability, and longevity. The completed walkway and platform provide Barwon Water with a robust, compliant solution that supports ongoing maintenance and operational access needs.
